Installing a Wireless adapter on your computer

Windows XP:

Insert the installation disk that came with the adapter or card. If the setup wizard pop’s up press CANCEL or EXIT. Turn the computer off. Install the wireless PCMCIA or wireless PCI card then wireless USB adapter in the computer then turn it on. Found new hardware wizard should come out and the let the wizard find the drivers and install it automatically.

Note: When the windows logo testing warning comes up just click on “Continue Anyway:”

If it did not prompt you a found new hardware wizard you may try installing the adapter on another slot or check if the lights on the adapter is lit. If you have installed the adapter before you have to uninstall it first by

Clicking on Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager >
Click the plus sign under network adapter > Right click ”Wireless-B…”/“Instant Wireless…”/’Wireless-G…”/“Instant wireless PCI…” > Uninstall or under Other devices > Right click “PCI Ethernet controller”/”Wireless-B…”/“Instant Wireless…”/”Wireless-G…”/“Instant wireless PCI…” > Uninstall.

Then reboot again the computer.

Vista:

well since vista has the most updated drivers for PC components, you may try to check the compatibility of the hardware first, if its good, then just plug the adapter in, boot the PC up and wait.

And if in case you decide to uninstall the device:

XP and 2000 Uninstalling the Adapter under Device Manager Network Adapters:

Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Click the plus sign under network adapter > Right click ”Wireless-B…”/“Instant Wireless…”/” Wireless-G…”/ “Instant wireless PCI…” > Uninstall.

XP and 2000 Uninstalling the Adapter under Device Manager under OTHER DEVICES:

Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Click the plus sign under network adapter or under Other devices > Right click “PCI Ethernet controller”/ ”Wireless-B…”/ “Instant Wireless…”/” Wireless-G…”/ “Instant wireless PCI…” > Uninstall.

for Vista, just right click "Computer" then go to manage, click device manager, look for the adapter under network adapters, right click then uninstall, it may or may not require you to reboot the machine.
